LL.M. in Intellectual Property and Technology

LL.M. Degree Requirements

51²è¹ÝWCL’s intellectual property and technology curriculum is one of the largest in the country – with over 40 intellectual property, technology, and related courses. Classes are offered during the day and evening, through out the year, on a part or full time basis – giving students the flexibility to tailor their schedule to accommodate other work and life demands.

The LLM degree requires the completion of twenty-four credit hours in either a ResearchÌý´Ç°ùÌýPractical Skills Track. At least twelve credits must be taken from approved intellectual property, information law, technology courses, including at least one Foundational course.Ìý Information about sitting for a bar exam after the completion of the degree can be found here.Ìý

Intellectual Property LL.M:

  • 24 credits with a grade point average of 2.0 (C) or better:
  • Credits can be earned through courses at WCL
  • Up to 6 credits total can be earned outside of traditional WCL courses:
    • Independent Study
    • Externship
  • Required courses:
    At least 12 credits taken from approved intellectual property and technology law courses, including at least one Foundational IP & Tech course.
    American Legal Institutions (2 credits) (required of non-common law students), and
    Legal Research and Writing (2 credits) (required of all international students without a U.S.
    J.D. degree)
  • Graduation tracks:
    • Without an externship:
      Two papers: minimum of 3,500 words each; completed as part of a class or of an independent study
      Memo written for Legal Research and Writing counts as one paper
      ´Ç°ùÌý
      A 7,000-word thesis in IP and/or related topics may be substituted.
    • With an externship:
      One paper only: minimum of 3,500 words; completed as part of a class or of an independent study.Ìý Memo written for Legal Research and Writing satisfies the writing requirement

Electives (take at least 9 credits)
