Audio/Visual Services and Policies
The Washington College of Law Audio/Visual (AV) department provides the following services:
- Assistance with classroom AV equipment.
- Video/audio recording of classes - webcasting.
- Consultation for video projects and events requiring technology.
- Faculty/Staff Zoom.
Making Audio/Visual Requests
- Only professors, or faculty assistants on behalf of professors, may request that classes be recorded.
- Requests for weekday support must be made at least 1 business day in advance.
- Requests for weekend support must be made by the Wednesday prior.
- All requests must be made through  or emailed to av@wcl.american.edu.
- When making requests, please provide the following information:
- Title: (class or event)
- Room:
- Date:
- Time: (official start and end times for the recording)
- Type of service and equipment required
A webcast link will be emailed to you or your administrative assistant to post on your Canvas page or for other distribution to your students.
Types of Recordings
- Zoom Recordings – This method of webcast recording is through Zoom. Large classrooms recording on Zoom can utilize built-in cameras and microphones. Small seminar classrooms can utilize webcams connected to the Surface tablet. All classrooms in the Warren and Yuma buildings utilize Zoom as the primary recording method.
- Video Camera Recordings – This method of webcast recording utilizes video cameras on tripods set up in Capital classrooms: C116, C117, C217, C317.
- Remote Recordings – This method of webcast recording can be set up remotely by request in the following classrooms: N101, N102, YT16, and Y115.
Recording Storage and Retention

Webcast links remain active until the end of the semester. If you would like them disabled sooner or enabled longer, please notify us.

Webcast links for internal events will remain active for 1 year.Â
Equipment and Other Services
- Microphones - A limited supply of microphones are available upon request. Microphones can only be used in large classrooms only. No more than 4 microphones are allowed per room, with the exception of Grossman Hall, which can accommodate up to 10. Microphones are not available in small seminar rooms.
- Portable Displays - Multiple television display carts are available for use in locations without displays.
- PowerPoint/Presentation Support - PowerPoint assistance is available upon request. Please note that you are responsible for whatever materials or presentations you wish to show. Materials should be brought to the classroom on a flash drive or retrieved through email/cloud storage. AV does not create or prepare PowerPoint presentations for classes or events. Please do not send presentations to AV ahead of time.
- Video Projects - AV is able to provide assistance with the editing of video projects and clips before and after each semester. In-semester, AV may be able to help with smaller projects, however resources may be more limited. Please prepare in advance as much detail as possible for these projects. Please allow a minimum of 5 business days or more for the completion of these projects, depending on the size and scope of the project.
- Event Support – AV is available to consult with event organizers/planners to ensure event AV is optimally set up to meet their needs. AV walkthroughs of classrooms and event spaces can be scheduled upon request. AV requires a minimum of one-month advance notice for a consultation to prepare, reserve resources and schedule technical support.
Lending
- AV does not lend out equipment. No equipment may leave the Washington College of Law and the AV office does not provide assistance at outside locations.

- Friday: 8:30 am - 5:00 pm
- Sat: 8:30 am - 3:00 pm
