Bio
Elizabeth Lang has taught French language courses at 51²è¹Ý since 1991 and will retire at the end of AY 2023-2024. Her primary interests are political, economic, social and cultural issues in Francophone Africa, and international development.
She has done extensive freelance translation, interpretation, and writing/editing for a number of African embassies in Washington and for Africa-related NGOs. In recent years she has taught the French translation courses in WLC.
She travels extensively in the francophone world, with yearly trips to Haiti, France, Canada, and her home in Burkina Faso.
She has been active in the Alternative Break program, as an advisory board member and faculty advisor on trips (Senegal, Haiti).
